Netflix is no exception; in fact, it might be the company who set the rules. At the Tudum Event in 2023, Netflix fans had a treat. But what would the age rating of each of these series be? Squid Game: The Challenge Teaser
Squid Game was made in Korea but took over the world. The set design, costumes, and the setting intrigued many people, enough that a second season was immediately greenlighted. At Tudum 2023, there was news of both Squid Game Season 2 and Squid Game: The Challenge. The latter is a reality show that features schoolyard games with 456 competitors fighting for a huge sum of money, Hopefully, the challenges won’t be as deadly as those in the series. An age rating hasn’t been announced yet. The series was rated TV-MA in the U.S., to be watched only by mature audiences. Of course, this was because of the deadly challenges that led to all the blood and deaths. We suspect that the reality show will be appropriate for teens to watch but not for younger audiences. But until the show finally comes out, we’ll have to wait and see.
Heartstopper
The opening scene of Heartstopper’s second season was also shown at Tudum 2023. The episode names were also announced. The show revolves around a teenage romance between two boys. The first season’s rating was TV-14 which automatically means the second season will be so too. The shows is a sweet one and since the school is the main setting, it can be a treat to watch if your child is over 14 years old.
The Witcher: Season 3
A new clip was shown from The Witcher: Season 3. Apparently, the last season that Henry Caill will play the role. The Witcher features Henry Cavill monster-hunting which includes a lot of blood and gore. Also, the story includes many sex scenes, foul language, and mature themes. The age rating is TV-MA and rightfully so. The third season will be no exception.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Live Action Series
Many parents today grew up watching Avatar: The Last Airbender as teenagers. The show, made by Nickelodeon, has been praised as one of the most family-friendly shows in all of history. It introduces mature and difficult themes to children such as genocide and almost always concludes its episodes with a moral lesson. The show is also amazingly well-made and a treat to watch for adults as well. It’s rare for a show to be such a gem. Hopefully, Netflix’s live-action remake will live up to fans’ expectations. The show was rated Y7 so take that as you will.
Wednesday Season 2
Tim Burton’s Netflix series made a lot of hype, and its fans didn’t have a doubt in the world that Netflix would opt to make a second season. The show is rated TV-14, meaning it’s best suited for teenagers and older. The show features the titular character Wednesday trying to solve a mystery at the school she goes to with the help of her psychic abilities.
One Piece Live Action Series
One Piece is an anime that Netflix has opted to make a live-action remake of, just like Avatar: The Last Airbender. Though Avatar isn’t technically an anime, it gets as close as possible to anime tropes, especially in its final season. It seems Netflix is on a roll in turning animation series into live-action ones. The trailer doesn’t show any sign of the age rating going to change and let’s hope it stays that way.
